Halloween was a lot of fun with a few setbacks. We went over to some friends for Halloween night. We ate dinner with them and then trick-or-treating with all the kids in their neighborhood. We chose to go to their house because they live in a neighborhood called Sleepy Hallow and there is a man that dresses as the Headless Horseman and rides around the neighborhood while the kids are trick-or-treating. Unfortunately we never saw him while we were out......bummer! Also, we had our van up for sale and someone called wanting to look at the it. John had to leave during dinner and didn't make it back until after we were done candy hunting. Good news is they bought the van and paid the price we were asking. The scary part was they paid in 20's so we had this huge wad of cash in the house until we could get to the bank the next Monday. Anyway, after trick-or-treating we decided to go to a mansion in Ogden that sets up their home as Hogwarts from Harry Potter. They have people dressed up as all the characters and they play games and stuff. They even sort the kids into houses like in the books. If you don't know the books or movies I don't have time to explain anymore than that. Anyway, the kids were sooooo excited but on our way there John's boss called and said his employee didn't lock up the store before he left that night. This was Saturday of course, and someone wouldn't be coming in again until Monday morning. John proceeded to try and call his employee and couldn't get a hold of him. The kids were not happy but we had to abort our Harry Potter evening. We thought we were going to have to drive all the way to Salt Lake so John could lock up the store but just as we were arriving home to pick up his keys the security guard of that building called and said the door was locked, it just wasn't closed all the way. He closed the door and made sure it was locked up tight. The kids wanted us to go back and try to find Hogwarts but we didn't know how to get back. Needless to say, the kids were not happy at all. It was a good time to try and teach a lesson on gratitude. We were able to do a lot of fun things that night and we didn't want them to only focus on the one thing they didn't get to do. We are definitely planning on going there next year.
